Bristol, it’s that wonderful time of year again as the Balloon Fiesta takes place this coming weekend! Four days filled with over 100 hot air balloons taking to the skies and here at SK we think it’s one of the best events we’re lucky enough to host in this brilliant city of ours…
Running from this coming Thursday 8th through to Sunday 11th August at Ashton Court, the fiesta is completely free and alongside the balloons is entertainment galore so definitely not one to be missed! Thursday and Saturday evening will see the Nightglows and firework displays (9pm but get there early to get a space amongst the crowds) and then the mass ascents will take place at both 6am and 6pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Ashton Court is of course the place to get the closest view but there are some pretty fab view points over the city too – the observatory up above the Suspension Bridge is one of them and if the wind is in the right direction they’ll all drift over towards Clifton and beyond making for some incredible photos).
The balloon fiesta is always something a bit special but this year even more so as they will be “Celebrating Bristol Icons” with Aerospace Bristol and the 50th anniversary of Concorde’s maiden flight in 1969 along with Aardman who are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of Wallace & Gromit. Not convinced yet? Lightning Bolt Army Parachute Display Team, the giant Darth Vader balloon’s first ever flight from Bristol, carnival style samba drums, breakfast picnics, raffles with a chance to win a balloon ride…what’s not to love??
I’m usually over for a 6am ascent as there’s something quite lovely about watching the sky filled with colour to start your day…I hope to see some of you there!
