Bristol Open Doors is one of the best weekends of the year here in our fab city and we’re excited to say that it’s back at the end of next week from 13th-15th September.
Produced and run by the Architecture Centre charity, Open Doors is a FANTASTIC way to see inside of tonnes of different iconic buildings and businesses with them open to the public for drop ins over three days only. In addition to being able to have a good browse and a wander, there will be workshops, talks and tours going on also with the Brabazon Hangars at Filton Airfield being a newby added to the list of places to visit this year too.
Learn about the great feats of engineering that Bristol has seen over the years, sustainable energy on a wind farm, stroll around the gorgeous Arnos Vale, browse the Bristol Archives, see the beautiful Bristol Cathedral or inside the Old Vic, City Hall, Jamaica Street Studios, Merchants Hall, St Georges, St Mary Redcliffe, the Bottle Yard…the list goes on and on and they are all open for the whole weekend.
As well as the above, this year as part of their Home for Heroes 100 project, , Open Doors will be marking the centenary of the 1919 Addison Housing Act and the introduction of council housing with celebrations and walking tours being led by residents of our very own communities including Sea Mills, Hillfields and Knowle West – get to know all about the historic estates with the people that know them inside out!
Open Doors is a great way to see so many different things across the city that you might have always wondered about. The Old Vic and Bristol University’s Botanic Garden are top of my list of things to do in our Hidden City – where will you be headed first?!
