So, who amongst you knew that that the UK’s first ever Easter egg was made here in Bristol? Our very own chocolatiers J.S Fry & Sons made the country’s first ever chocolate egg all the way back in 1873 at their Union Street Factory – quite a claim to fame for all of us locals!
As the long Easter weekend approaches, Bristol has some great events lined up…
For chocolate lovers, keep an eye out for the Great Easter Egg Hunt which will be taking place throughout the city until this coming Friday 25th March.
Not to be missed also is the “Taste Chocolate” festival which will be returning to the harbourside after a huge success last year. The event will be running on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th March and can be found on Waterfront Square, just off of Canons Way. The festival welcomes a host of local chocolatiers and visitors will not go hungry with all kinds of food being showcased, including luxurious artisan chocolates, cakes, patisseries, crepes, fudge, churros, donuts, beer, liqueurs, hot chocolate…and of course, chocolate Easter eggs. In addition, Taste Chocolate will feature specialist food producers, some great street food and cooking demonstrations across the weekend. And as if that wasn’t enough, this year there will be a Prosecco bar and dedicated craft ale bar too! Tickets are £3 in advance or £4 on the day and more details can be found here.
Of course there are Easter services being held throughout the city’s churches too and a multitude of eateries to choose from those looking for a tasty traditional Easter Sunday roast with the family. (A personal favourite of ours if you’re near to the Clifton area is the Alma Tavern where the cauliflower cheese is completely unbeatable…)
Enjoy the long weekend folks…we are looking to forward to a feast already!
