A few quick facts about the Cheltenham Gold Cup:
The racecourse covers a distance of 3 miles with 22 fences to jump.
It is the most valuable non-handicap chase in Britain and in 2012, offered a prize fund of nearly £500,000.
The most recent race was won by Synchronised with Jockey Tony McCoy OBE.
The first gold cup took place in 1819 and the inaugural winner Spectre won 100 guineas! At that time, it was a flat race. It became a jump race in 1924.
Some of the major contenders for tomorrow’s Gold Cup:
Bobs Worth won at the RSA Cheltenham Race last year and is the favourite for tomorrow with betting odds at 3/1. He loves running at Cheltenham!
Sir Des Champs is new to the race but has a good track record, winning at Jewson Novices Chase and The Irish Hennessy Gold Cup.
Long Run came over from France a while ago and has been a major contender ever since. He finished third place in the Gold Cup last year behind Synchronised.
