Sarah Kenny version of ‘Who do you think you are?’ The Pocock family

Liz, who works in our accounts departments has found out some interesting facts about her family and its links to Bristol.  Its a bit like the Sarah Kenny version of  ‘Who do you think you are?’

 The Pocock Family.
Nicholas Pocock – Bristol Marine Artist born 1740 son of a seaman – reknowned for marine/ship related sketches, his son, William Innes Pocock, made several sketches of the remote South Atlantic Island of St.Helena, Napoleon’s place of exile and where he died, and in 1995 I was fortunate to visit with my husband William Pocock.
People who may be new to Bristol and may be renting a property in the City may wish to visit the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery where paintings of Nicholas Pocock are exhibited.
In addition we have William Thomas Pocock otherwise known as ‘Billy’ (my husband’s Grandfather) who played for Bristol City Football Club in the 1920’s playing the position ‘Right Wing’.

On a separate note, Jemma Corbett, has discovered that her great, great grandfather was the inventor of self-raising flour, William Jones, who was also from Bristol.  There is a section on this in the M-Shed Museum about famous people from Bristol.
