There’s something unbeatably lovely about finding a good spot in the sun and settling down with a great book. We have quite a few little bookworms here at Sarah Kenny so we thought we’d share our top reads for you to pick up this summer…
The Child – Fiona Barton
Sunday Times bestseller and now a Richard and Judy Book Club pick for 2018. A great crime read and with a synopsis like this who wouldn’t want to snap it up straight away?!
“When a paragraph in an evening newspaper reveals a decades-old tragedy, most readers barely give it a glance. But for three strangers it’s impossible to ignore.
For one woman, it’s a reminder of the worst thing that ever happened to her.
For another, it reveals the dangerous possibility that her darkest secret is about to be discovered.
And for the third, a journalist, it’s the first clue in a hunt to uncover the truth.
The Child’s story will be told.”
The Girl Before – JP Delaney
“Enter the world of One Folgate Street and discover perfection . . . but can you pay the price?”
Rave reviews, a fantastic psychological thriller and “more than a match” to The Girl on a Train from Paula Hawkins according to the Sunday Times – grab your copy quickly as you won’t want to put this one down.
East of the Sun – Julia Gregson
Set in 1928, this is the story of three young women on their way to India – one as a bride-to-be, one desperate to escape her overbearing mother and one in search of the India of her childhood, ghosts from the past and most importantly, freedom.
A fantastic story of secrets, friendship and adventure – perfect for sunny days!
“When she woke up, she went to the window and watched the sun go down over the sea, and felt homesick for the first time since she’d arrived, a sense of the vastness of India all around her…”
The Separation – Dinah Jefferies
A beautiful debut from this lovely novelist and a tale of a family fractured by lies.
“A country at war with itself, a family divided and betrayed, a bond that never can be broken…”
This one has everything – a bit of mystery, intrigue, romance and humour (and The Tea Planter’s Wife by the same author is brilliant too!)
The Last Secret of the Deverills – Santa Montefiore
Santa Montefiore’s books are always lovely reads and this one is no different. Last Secret of the Deverills is filled with romance, secrets and forbidden liaisons and is an absolute must have!
The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
This one is something a little special.
“Santiago, a young shepherd living in the hills of Andalucia, feels that there is more to life than his humble home and his flock. One day he finds the courage to follow his dreams into distant lands, each step galvanised by the knowledge that he is following the right path: his own. The people he meets along the way, the things he sees and the wisdom he learns are life-changing.”
The Alchemist is a parable about “learning to listen to your heart, read the omen’s strewn across life’s path and above all, following your dreams…” and we think it’s fantastic.
Children of Light – Lucy English (Bath Spa Alumni)
The second novel from this Bristol based author, The Children of Light is set between the south of France and our very own Bath. Featuring a bohemian heroine the story describes an ongoing rebellion within a family of each generation against the last – nothing but lovely and great for unwinding with.
Those are our top picks for the moment and we have plenty of others on our shelves ready to go including Still Me by JoJo Moyes, He Said She Said by Erin Kelly, The Tiger’s Wife by Téa Obrecht…the list goes on!
