So, last weekend I went for a leisurely lunch with friends on Sunday afternoon at The Ethicurean in Wrington and I would like today to tell you all how absolutely brilliant it is…
Just half an hour from the city centre, The Ethicurean restaurant is tucked away inside of a Victorian walled garden offering incredible views over the Mendip hills. Open Tuesday – Sunday, this absolute gem offers lunch, dinner a tasty piece of cake with tea or coffee each day and everything on their menu celebrates their incredible produce grown on site (including some delicious cider) and the wild land that surrounds it.
Service is friendly, the setting is stunning and the food is pretty unbeatable. Last weekend we feasted on potted trout, Welsh rarebit, pea and lovage mousse with pearl barley and rosemary focaccia for starters and then we all went for the same incredible hake served with cockles, kohlrabi, and Italian agretti. We had all said that we’d be well behaved and not go for dessert but our resolution did not last long as we ordered an almond, pear and chocolate cake, sticky toffee apple cake with clotted cream ice cream and two affogatos served with some of the most tasty honeycomb I’ve ever had!
We were lucky to get a gorgeous afternoon and after lunch had a good wander around the gardens before heading home feeling incredibly relaxed… One for a bit of a treat but if you have not been there yet it is absolutely one to put onto your list of places to visit as The Ethicurean is one of our absolute favourites. (And after moving out this way last year, I am absolutely chuffed to bits that this is practically one of my locals now!) 🙂
