Now, I know we’ve written about Averys before but they are just so fantastic we thought we’d tell you a little about them again and why we love them so much here at Sarah Kenny.
Averys began back in 1793 and has built its reputation across five family generations to become one of the UK’s best wine merchants. With an unbeatable passion for wine and the most incredible vaulted cellars to be found just off of Park Street, if you have not yet visited – Averys is an absolute must!
As well as housing over 1000 different varieties of wine, Averys also hold regular tasting events, one of which I took part in the weekend before last with their Celebration of Wine at Bristol Grammar School. Tickets included a glass of champagne on arrival and unlimited sampling of the different types of wine which were on offer (of which there were 111 and a few varieties of gin too!) The wines were divided by country, we were all given a tasting booklet with details of each variety and I have to say that the whole thing was just brilliant. Our favourites from the evening were Aimery Cremant de Limoux, Domaine de la Bastide Cotes du Rhone Villages (my husband and I actually chose the Bastide red from Averys for our wedding a couple of years back but this was an extra special version and we loved it!), Villa des Anges Rosé (winner of the evening for us – rosé fans, this one is one to be snapped up), Madame F Grenache Vieilles Vignes, Castano Dulce (the most delicious Spanish red, almost port-like), Chateau Doisy Vedrines…and a long list of others but for us these were the pick of the bunch.
Each of the producers and all of the Averys staff were lovely and as if the wonderful wines weren’t enough there was local food available to buy from our much loved Arch House Deli, Somerset Charcuterie and Zara’s Chocolates too.
Never been to Avery’s before? Now is the time to go! They hold all sorts of tasting events (click here for dates and details) and there are even two going on this week with Spain and Portugal tomorrow night and Arch House Cheese and Wine Tasting on Saturday. A lovely thing to do with friends or even a fun treat for somebody for Christmas….Averys, we think you are just fab.
