Hello again folks, Laura here and this week it’s my turn for an update as to how things are coming along for the Great Bristol 10k which is now only 2.5 weeks away!
This will be my third 10k with the Great Bristol crew and I have to say, now that my number has arrived in the post I am actually really looking forward to it. I love all things exercise related but I’m not a natural runner – it has never come very easy to me but over the past few years I’ve pushed myself to get there and somehow managed to get myself round the Great Bristol half marathon last September so distance wise I know I’ll be fine in a couple of weeks but I’m now trying to work on my time.
Training I have to say has been slow! I hung up my running trainers entirely over the winter and dusted them off only a few weeks ago so I still have some work to do. Thankfully I have a slight addiction to kettle bell classes at Clifton College which I’ve been doing religiously every week for several years now and these help to keep my fitness levels up. I’m hoping I’ll be able to beat my best time of 54 mins 48 seconds from last year (not the speediest I know, but like I said – it doesn’t come naturally!) but at the moment I think I’m just going to enjoy the day and see how I go.
I’ll be running in support of a charity which is very close to my heart, Cancer Research UK, and the fantastic work they do in researching cures for cancer. With family and friends who have been affected as my motivation, I find the day incredibly emotional each time but the atmosphere around the entire circuit is brilliant and I think it’s something I’ll be taking part in for many a year to come.
Great Bristol 10k, there’s nothing quite like being surrounded by 13,000 other runners and I cannot wait for you to get here!
Do not miss next week with update #3 from Rebecca…18 days left…
