Walking is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to keep fit and healthy. Going for a stroll is actually a great cardiovascular workout and in celebration of this is Bristol Walk Fest – the UK’s largest urban festival of walking.
Coordinated by Bristol City Council and supported by Bristol Ramblers, Living Streets, Walk for Health Bristol and Bristol University, Bristol Walk Fest started over the weekend and will be running right until the end of May. The event started five years ago and this time with over 150 walking events offering something for everyone, the programme is aimed to get people from Bristol and beyond strolling, scrambling and hiking for another year.
Highlights this year will include walking football, treasure hunts, yoga on the move the #MileADayChallenge, get fit with your buggy and even ping pong.
The majority of events are free and the festival caters for people of all ages and abilities. Walks range from one mile to more than ten and they are a great way to meet people and have some fun in the spring sunshine!

As European City of Sport 2017, this is a great way of showcasing what Bristol has to offer and the benefits of getting active. I have my eye on the “Ups and downs in the Avon Gorge Walk” set to take place on Sunday 14th May – which one will you choose?
