Here in Bristol, we are all extremely proud of our maritime past and this coming weekend Bristol Museums is helping us to celebrate with their Docks Heritage event – so make sure you get yourselves to the harbourside!
Kick the weekend off with a floating harbour tour with Bristol Ferry Boats – refreshments and sea shanties at The Pump House along the way as well as soundscapes on board and all for a bargain £8.
Next onto M Shed for cargo demonstrations, a visit of the Fairbairn steam crane and lots of historic films about the port and the part it has played in the creation of our city as we know it today.
Over to the Underfall Yard to take part in some knots and rope work, a behind the scenes visit of the fantastic Victorian Workshops and learn all about the pumps used to power the port.
And we of course can’t have a celebration of the Docks without the wonderful SS Great Britain where there will be guided tours of the Great Western Dry Dock going on on Saturday at 11.00am and Sunday at 2.00pm.
This weekend only everyone so we hope to see you there (maybe a stop for coffee and a deliciously tempting treat at Wapping Wharf on the way too?!)
