So, one year ago yesterday I ran my first ever half marathon here in Bristol with Simplyhealth. This year, I have moved house and had a million and one things going on and so I decided a few months ago that I wouldn’t enter this year knowing that I would unlikely have enough time to dedicate to training properly. Now, the brilliant Great Bristol Half Marathon returns this coming Sunday 23rd September and I have to say that I’m quite gutted not to be taking part!
Kicking off at 9.30am on Anchor Road, we’ll see over 10,000 runners taking part and raising thousands of pounds for good causes along the way. With the course set to go through Hotwells, along the Portway, over to Spike Island and then into the city centre around Queen Square, Redcliffe (keep an eye out for the jelly babies being dished out here runners!) and Castle Park before coming back round to the finish line by Bristol Aquarium, there are lots and lots of spots for you to come along and cheer the participants on. There is live music at different spots along the route to keep everybody entertained and I cannot tell you how much somebody cheering your name helps when you are feeling tired and need a bit of a boost on the way round!
The half marathon first took place here in 1989 and has now become a major event in the city’s calendar. I’m not taking part this time but I’ll be thinking of everybody running and wishing you all the very best of luck! GO GO GO RUNNERS!!
