There are lots of things that are worth celebrating each day but today we are chuffed to bits to see the return of the fabulous World Book Day for its 21st year. Created by UNESCO, World Book Day is the biggest event of its kind and is a celebration of books, authors, illustrators and reading which is now seen in over 100 countries across the world.
Aimed at children of all ages, the main aim of today is to encourage them to read and explore the wonderful pleasure that is the literary world. Schools taking part have books sent to them and book tokens so that children can buy a book of their own to take home. We will see pupils throughout the UK dressed as their favourite book characters with each of them donating £1 to Book Aid International, the country’s leading book donation and library development charity.
In a world where gadgets and gizmos seem to be taking over, I love seeing how popular this event is. There is absolutely nothing quite like sitting down and being transported to somewhere magical by a talented writer – whilst I might be a bit too old for the book celebrations today, I definitely plan on enjoying #WorldBookDay this evening by tucking up nice and warm with the new book I started at the weekend…
Happy World Book Day people…get out of the cold this evening and let us know what you’re reading!
