There aren’t many things which stand the test of time as well as the Lido in Clifton but boy has this utter gem managed it beautifully…
Dating back to 1849, the Lido is one of the oldest surviving Lido’s in the UK. The Lido actually closed in 1990 and was left to decay for almost 20 years before a local campaign “Save the Lido” was initiated and the building as issued with an English Heritage Grade II* listing. After extensive restoration, the Lido reopened its doors in December 2008 and has since become the venue that we have all come to know and love.
With an outdoor pool (open and accessible for swimming all year round) surrounded by an award winning restaurant, tapas bar and spa, it’s really quite difficult not to enjoy a visit to this place! Both restaurant and bar overlook the pool and have fantastic original Victorian features mixed with modern floor to ceiling windows allowing light to pour in throughout. The food at the Lido is brilliant – whether you’re after breakfast, lunch, dinner or something for a special occasion you are guaranteed to find something tasty.
And if that isn’t enough, there is also a superb spa which specialises in tailor-made massages (the Classic Lido treatment is as an absolute must for anyone that has not been before!) Treatments include relaxation time the lovely spa tea room (also overlooking the pool) or if you go for a day package this will also allow access to the pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub.
Tucked away on Southleigh Road just off of Whiteladies, you would not necessarily know that the Lido was there but you certainly won’t forget it once you have been. I usually make a trip to the spa here in the winter when it has turned a little chilly outside and I am very much looking forward to it already!
