New legislation requirements from 1st October 2015

A new law requiring the installation of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors by October has been passed in attempts to reduce the number of annual house fire deaths. This comes after figures indicating that around 38% of house fire deaths occurred in houses without a smoke alarm. Although the new law means landlords must install smoke alarms in all their properties and check them at the start of every tenancy, it falls on the tenants to regularly test them. Penalties for failing to install both smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors could, as of October, incur a fine of £5000.  Please rest assured that as a matter of course, Sarah Kenny are ensuring that all managed properties, and all let only properties at the start of the tenancy, meet the requirements.
