Now 400 years on and Shakespeare is still going strong…

This year will mark four centuries since one of the world’s greatest playwrights, William Shakespeare, died on 23rd April 1616 after a life of outstanding work.

To celebrate “Shakespeare 400”, the Tobacco Factory Theatres in Southvillle are offering a Shakespeare Season from 11th February right through until 30th April 2016 beginning with one of the most famous plays in world theatre – Hamlet.

Hamlet is a renowned tragedy which tells the story of the Prince of Denmark who is called to wreak revenge on his uncle Claudius by the ghost of his father, King Hamlet. In addition to Hamlet, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School will also be performing another of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, The Tempest, at the Redgrave Theatre in Clifton from 18th – 27th February 2016. A tale of forgiveness, generosity and enlightenment, Donnacadh O’Briain’s production is also well worth a watch and tickets can be bought online here.
