Bristol is fast becoming one of the UK’s most popular cities to live in and so here at Sarah Kenny we thought we’d have a look into a few of the reasons why….
Bristol has a superb independent spirit. With small, independent shops and cafés to be found across the city, we are also very proud of our local growers and farmers who produce some of the best food in the country. Gloucester Road is a fantastic example of this along with the delight that is St Nick’s market which is one of the best places to have lunch in the whole city.
Bristol is wonderfully creative – scour the city’s streets and you’ll struggle not to find a cutting edge piece of graffiti decorating its walls. Home to Banksy, there is street art galore and now even a festival (Upfest) to showcase both local and international artists. In addition to this we are lucky enough to have the Aardman studios here, creators of the much loved Wallace and Gromit.
Bristol’s entertainment scene is second to none. Theatre, live music, comedy…you name it, there is always something going on. We are also proud to host some of the UK’s best and most popular festivals including Love Saves the Day, the Bristol Harbour Festival, the International Balloon Fiesta (running this year for the 39th time and by far one of the most spectacular events you’ll ever see!), Grillstock, Foodies festival and that is to name but a few!
Our shopping quarter is brilliant! Bristol has all of the shops you could want but without the crammed mayhem or huge crowds you’d get in London. Whether it be Cabot Circus, Broadmead, The Galleries or out in The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, there is something for absolutely everyone.
Bristol has just so many fantastic places to eat. Whether you be looking for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or even just an excellent coffee and mouth-watering piece of cake to go with it, you will not need to look very far as Bristol is bursting with places filled with tasty treats.
We are a fitness conscious and healthy bunch! Bristol may have a hill around practically every corner but that doesn’t stop the thousands of people who get around one of the UK’s first cycling cities on two wheels or on foot. Home to two football teams, Bristol rugby and Gloucestershire cricket too, Bristol has a great sporting profile and a large part of its population loves keeping themselves fit and active.
We have Brunel’s Suspension Bridge! You cannot speak about Bristol and not mention this outstanding structure which spans the Avon Gorge. For almost 150 years, the bridge has attracted visitors from all over the world and it really is a sight to behold.
Bristol has water and outdoor space everywhere! Previously voted the European Green Capital of the Year, we are so lucky to have parks and green spaces dotted throughout the city. From the Downs to Ashton Court to Brandon Hill, everybody has their own favourite bit of outdoors and with so many to be found (including the harbourside where its ferries, boats and bridges are hugely popular too) we are completely spoilt for choice.
So there we have it folks, just a few of the many reasons we are so proud to live here in the southwest. A lively and bustling city, friendly people, great atmosphere, events and activities galore…we’ve all got the Bristol bug – who’s next?!
