Sarah Kenny’s favourite places for brunch in Bristol

Here in Bristol we are spoilt for choice for food with great eateries dotted throughout the entire city. I asked our team here where they like to brunch at the weekend and the following places all come very highly recommended…

Primrose Café – one of Bristol’s busiest and best-loved cafés, the Primrose is located right inside of Clifton Village. Breakfast is served all day until 3.30pm and the menu includes some great classics such as bubble & squeak, eggs of any variety you can think off and a not so traditional but ever so tasty breakfast stack which includes a toasted bagel, spinach, mushrooms, poached egg and avocado – need I say more?! The lunch menu is excellent too and for those looking just for a mid-afternoon snack, the cake counter is definitely well worth a visit.

Cote (also located in Clifton Village on The Mall) has a great breakfast menu and really offers something for everyone. With light breakfast options including pastries and sandwiches or cooked dishes for those after something a little more filling, Cote has it all! They serve a variety of freshly ground coffees, teas, fresh juice and even breakfast cocktails…

Chin! Chin! on St Michael’s Hill in High Kingsdown is a celebration of all things local. The team have a real passion for seasonal and regional British produce and have been running since 2010. The atmosphere here is lovely, the staff all extra friendly and their “Brilliant Brunch” menu is just perfect for a Sunday morning when you fancy something tasty to eat. Lunch is just as good too if you’re passing and they also offer what looks like a pretty amazing afternoon tea – I know where I’ll be headed next time I have friends visiting!

Bill’s restaurant on the Triangle is in a great location and is HUGE inside so good if there’s a big bunch of you. Breakfast is served until 1.00pm on weekends and the menu has a bit of an American twist on it with things like blueberry buttermilk pancakes available. The sour dough toast here is very good and their tasty, strong coffee is a definite winner in my book.

The Marmalade Café on Worrall Road (just off of Blackboy Hill) is a fantastic independent place that simply offers delicious home-made food and friendly service. Home cooked ham with egg and hand cut chips, salads, sandwiches , the best looking cinnamon buns I’ve seen in ages and much more – the café is family run and it really shows….just lovely.

Spoke & Stringer can be found right on the harbour side off of Lime Kiln Road and is brilliant on a gorgeous sunny day with tables outside and a great view over the water. The menu is fairly small but offers some amazingly tasty dishes and they also do tapas in the evening.

And finally…the famous Bristolian on Picton Street in Montpelier. The Bristolian Café has earned a reputation for serving the best breakfasts in Bristol and they use only free range produce. Coffee is made using locally roasted beans here too and they serve over 20 varieties of tea. Brunch is served daily until 3.00pm and whilst the menu covers all options, a traditional cooked breakfast (of which they offer five different varieties!) is what they are known for and has to be the way forward here.

So, with only four days to go until the weekend, where are you going to choose?!
