If any of you have not been to the fabulous Pony & Trap in Chew Magna, make sure you put it onto your list of places to try in Bristol. Brother and sister duo, Josh and Holly Eggleton run this award winning pub and it has been the proud holder of a Michelin star since 2011.
The food here is pretty spectacular and the pretty setting overlooking the Chew Valley makes for a lovely treat for anybody that is thinking about a visit. And as if that wasn’t enough, the team are now holding special guest chef evenings over the next few months with some of the UK’s most talented culinary artists. In collaboration with the pub’s own team, the chefs will each be co-creating an amazing six course tasting menu to then be offered to guests for one night only…
Evenings are to take place once a month and the next one is set for 25th July with Richard Bainbridge who owns Norwich based Benedict’s which he launched in 2015 following a great show on Great British Menu in 2014.
August will see Head Chef at Michelin starred Outlaw’s in London, Tom Brown, arrive on 22nd. A fellow countryman from Cornwall, Tom has been working with seafood for several years and is now one of the country’s most renowned seafood chefs.
On 19th September Emily Watkins will arrive from The Kingham Plough in Oxfordshire. Having worked under Heston Blumenthal and been a judge for the South West Region on Great British Menu, this tasting menu is sure to be something extraordinary.
October’s slot will be filled on 17th by Simon Hulstone who owns The Elephant in Torquay which has held three AA rosettes since 2005 and a Michelin star since 2006. If relaxed brasserie style food takes your fancy, then this evening will the one for you.
Last but by no means least on 21st November, The Pony & Trap will be joined by Jude Kereama. Owner of Porthleven based Kota in Cornwall, Jude’s cooking is a great blend of his Maori and Chinese Malay heritage and so his tasting menu promises to be a real treat.
Just recently voted the third best Gastropub in all of the UK at the Estrella Damm Gastropub Awards 2017, The Pony & Trap is a real hidden gem and well worth a visit. Further details and prices are available online here.
