Our sports correspondence in the office, Tom who work in our maintenance team gives his up to date synopsis for the final weekend of the tournament
”All three games are on the Saturday. Pubs will be busy and there will be a lot of nervous fans watching the ups and downs of their teams. For the BBC it is a dream fixture list with Wales v England playing last of all. Both teams can win the championship, Wales need to beat England by 7 points to win the tournament and England just need to win to claim their first grand slam since 2003 and be in the exalted company of the RWC winning team. The present bunch is not nearly as good as that team. Lions places are up for grabs all over the pitch.
At the start I predicted France or maybe Ireland to win it, with no Grand Slam this year. How wrong I was.
First up it is France v Scotland: France are yet to win and the pressure is on them to avoid their first Wooden Spoon (last place) since 1957! A resurgent Scotland will be quietly confident of upsetting their illustrious hosts and gaining their 3rd victory in the tournament.
Italy v Ireland: Italy have been erratic this tournament but they beat France and should/could have beaten England. Can they play well two games in a row? Ireland have been poor, but what is likely to be BOD’s last game in green, they have to win to give him the send-off he deserves. With this Ireland side don’t be so sure.
Then to the big one: Wales v England: Wales at home with drunken home support behind then, the Stereophonics “as long as we beat the English” blaring out, and with hymns and arias sung with gusto. England have a tough ask, a back division that cannot buy a try and with a buoyant Wales looking to defend their title and stop England gaining the glory.
The quality has not been great this year, but we still end with a grand finale and there will be numerous hangovers come Sunday.”
