The new year has started and it’s time to get back into shape…!

So, 2016 is officially under way and it’s time to start thinking about fitness again. We’ve all had a couple of weeks to put things off but as we enter the third week of January it’s time to stop making excuses… let’s get rid of the final remnants of Christmas and kick start the new year with a new exercise regime!

As I’m sure a lot of you will know, Bristol is an amazingly active city and we are spoilt for choice when it comes to fitness, both indoor and out. Cyclists can choose from a multitude of paths throughout the entire city, runners have both the Downs, Ashton Court and the harbourside to name just a few popular running spots and for those looking to stay inside and avoid the cold which has just set in, there are gyms a plenty available.

Below you will find six gyms of our choice, all of which offer some great packages and are eagerly awaiting for you all to sign up…

Nuffield Health on the Triangle in Clifton. Without doubt one of the best equipped gyms in the city. All equipment is of the highest quality, memberships offer nutritional and health advice/programmes, personal trainers are available at all times, classes are all included and as if that wasn’t enough, the centre has a pool and sauna/steam room to offer too. Packages here are a little more pricey than others but you certainly get what you pay for with Nuffield – a centre and service that is second to none.

Clifton College Sports Centre. Situated within the college’s historic grounds, membership here includes use of the swimming pool (25m), fitness suite, tennis, squash and badminton courts. Gym equipment covers a range of activities ranging from cardiovascular to weight training and offers audio visual entertainment whilst training. Classes are not included but the centre offers a really great variety including Kettlercise, circuit training, pilates and kick boxing, all of which can be attended either as part of a course or as a one-off. Good value, lovely staff and highly recommended personal trainers too.

Anytime Fitness, also on the Triangle, is one of Bristol’s many 24 hour gyms and so offers great flexibility whatever your working hours may be. They also have an “Anywhere Club Access” which means your membership covers centres throughout the UK and not just this one so could be great if you travel a lot. Bargain membership prices which they quote to be “less than the daily cost of a cappuccino”!

David Lloyd which has two centres in Bristol – one in Long Ashton and another in Westbury-on-Trym. Perhaps amongst the more well known, David Lloyd offers fitness suites, class/exercise studios, indoor and outdoor pool, spa facilities, tennis/badminton/squash/basketball courts and great opening times too (from 6.30am – 11.30pm).

The Gym, located in Cabot Circus is great for any of you living within the city centre. Currently offering no membership fees, prices here are amongst the best in town and it also has 24 hour access. Classes are included (see website for a full list) and there is no fixed term of contract so you can join for as little or long as you want.

Pure Gym. Similar to The Gym, there is no fixed contract here and Pure Gym has several clubs throughout Bristol. Access to facilities is 24 hours, lots of classes included each week and personal trainers are available also.

And those are to name just a few!
New year, new start…we certainly have put our running shoes back on and it feels great so we hope that you will join us!
