St Peter’s is Bristol’s only adult hospice and each year it organise a bike road known as the “Tour de Bristol” to raise funds for the wonderful work that they do. All of the care provided to their patients is free of charge and so the hospice relies on fundraising events such as these to be able to continue.
There are three routes to choose from and they will each take place on Saturday 8th April this year.
Route 1: 35km
The perfect route for cyclists wanting to get out of the city and see some of the pretty scenery that North Somerset has to offer. The route covers quiet country lanes, part of the Avon Cycleway and is mainly flat (aside from a small climb through Ashton Court on the way back to reach the finish line).
Route 2: 50km
For those wanting a little more of a challenge, this course takes you through woodland in Brockley, the villages of Downside and Felton and then joins the 334 cycle path into Ashton Court.
Route 3: 100km
Not for the faint hearted! This route has been newly added and adds a few more challenges for the more experienced cyclist. This ride will take participants into North Somerset following the coast and across moorland. Climb Burrington Combe, cross the top of the Mendips, descend into Cheddar and climb its spectacular gorge, take in some beautiful views across Chew Valley and Blagdon Lake and then join the 50km route in Felton village
Each route will have feed stations along the way to keep energy levels up and entry costs between £25-£35 per person. Spectators are very welcome and encouraged to cheer on participants throughout the day!
A brilliant local charity and a fantastic cause…it’s events like these that make us proud to live in Bristol.
