Top tips on busting limescale

The water in the Bristol area is extremely hard and can cause a build up of limescale.  It is the enemy in Bristol as far as we are concerned BUT fear not read our guide to steering you clear of the chalky build up!   Limescale is the hard off-white chalky deposit found in kettles and can sometimes be seen in bathrooms around taps, on bathroom tiles, shower screens, shower curtains and toilets. It is often orange in colour. Limescale also builds up in showerheads which may affect the flow and temperature of the water.

Shower curtains can generally be washed on a delicate wash to keep them fresh and clean. Alternatively they can be replaced for a very reasonable price.  Wilko on the Triangle is very reasonable.  But Sainsbury’s’ does them for about £8.00

A ‘Letten Squeegee’ available in Ikea is excellent for use on shower screens to remove excess water following showering and therefore helping prevent Limescale build up.

Most bathroom cleaners are effective if used on a regular basis at keeping limescale under control. However, where limescale has been allowed to build up a proprietary limescale remover such as Viakal or Limelight is very effective at removing limescale. These products may also be used regularly to keep limescale at bay.

For badly discoloured areas try spraying with Astonish or Dettox Mould & Mildew remover both these products contain bleach and are very effective.  We have tried and tested all of the above, so know that they work!
