Top tips for spring cleaning…20th March is the start of Spring!

Its official, apparently, Spring arrives on the 20th March. So to get into the spirit of things, we thought, that we would give you the our cleaning tips, that we advise you to do, in order to make sure you get your deposit back when you leave your SK managed property.

We really don’t want to deduct any money from your deposit or have conversations with you about the greasy finger prints on the extractor hood. So I would always advise that you get a professional cleaning quote as well, as very often its really not as expensive as you think. It also has the added bonus of if you do instruct them, and we come back and say that it isn’t as clean as it should be, you can get the cleaners back into the flat to sort it out for you.

We have a couple of companies that we recommend, so please ask us first for any suggestions that we may have. Likewise, cleaning the oven has to be the most arduous of tasks ever, so I always vote to get this professionally cleaned!

Here are our top tips for making sure that all the cleaning jobs are done!

Make sure that all furniture and effects is back where it was when you moved in. It makes things a lot easier when you are doing your outgoing inventory check – something i woudl highly recommend.
* Make sure all lightbulbs are working – as very often we have to charge not just for replacement bulbs but for a work man to attend to this, which soon starts to get expensive.
Remove cobwebs including around light fittings and corners of rooms – its amazing the spaces that they get into!
Dust all hard surfaces – if it doesn’t move – dust it!
Remember to move furniture to dust and hoover underneath and behind it.
TOP TIP – remember to remove your washing from the washing machine – you will be amazed how many people leave it behind!
Defrost fridge, freezer and leave switched off with doors open, otherwise it starts to smell horrible.
Clean the soap dispenser of the washing machine and front and top of machine.  I always forget this bit!
Gardens always end up being more work than you need to be honest! So I would definately advise that you get someone to give it a once over, as you will really free up your time, to do the nice bits of moving.

A couple of my top tips to a successful move are
Always ask your agent for top tips and preferred contractors for works.
Check with the Landlord to see if there are any major works being done at the property after you leave – if a new oven is being put in you don’t want to get yours cleaned/spend hours cleaning it!
Ask if possible to be there when they do the check out -this way if any cleaning is needed, perhaps you can do it there and then.
Keys – make sure that you give all keys back to the agent, as the cost of key cutting can really add up.

Hope these tips are helpful!  If you think I have missed any let me know!
