Bristol is extremely proud to host the penultimate stage of this year’s Tour of Britain, Britain’s premier road cycling event, on Saturday 10th September.
The Tour will begin in Glasgow on Sunday 4th September and will make its way through different areas including the Lake District, Wales, Bath, Dartmoor before then finishing in London on Sunday 11th.
Bristol’s stage this coming Saturday will see the world’s top riders return to the city for the first time since 2014 where they will take on a challenging double-stage event.
The morning will see contestants take part in an individual time trial where they will tackle one lap of a fixed circuit from the start/finish line on the Downs. The circuit will include a crossing of the Clifton Suspension Bridge before heading through Ashton Court Estate. Riders will then race back through the beautiful Harbourside before climbing Bridge Valley Road and heading back to the Downs.
The second part of the racing stage will be a six-lap circuit race (each circuit covering a distance of 15.3 km). This part of the race will feature the same circuit used for the morning’s time trial but will include multiple ascents of the 600 metre, 9% climb of the well known Bridge Valley Road back up to the Downs – a feat which is definitely not for the faint hearted!
The Tour of Britain is a spectacular event and one not to be missed by cycling fans. With more than 120 of the world’s best riders coming to speed around our streets, the Tour will be the biggest single FREE sporting event that Bristol has ever hosted.
