As the summer comes to an end, Bristol is gearing itself up for the autumn and already has plenty in store for us all – especially for all of you sports lovers…!
Activities start towards the end of this month with the Colour Fun Run at Oldbury Court Estate on Sunday 27th September. The fun run is a fundraising event for St Vincent’s (an addiction recovery project based in Bristol) and will see hundreds of participants cover a five kilometre course whilst being splashed with brightly coloured powder paint at different stations along the way. It’s suitable for all ages and abilities and makes for a great day out with friends or family with participants allowed to run, skip, walk or dance their way around the track!
Not a fan of running? On the same day is the ever popular Bristol Bike Ride. The Stroke Association has teamed up with Bike Events to put on this fantastic event which offers not just one but three different courses covering distances of 25 miles, 60 miles and 100 miles. The routes travel up towards the edge of the Cotswolds, turns towards the river Severn and then return to Bristol through the flats of the Severn Valley onto the finish line. For biking fans, this is an absolute must with funds going towards a great cause.
For those looking for a challenge, why not sign up for the Sanlam Bristol & Bath Marathon on Sunday 25th October? This brand new marathon for the South West will take you from city to city with a challenging route through the South Gloucestershire countryside. Official charities include CLIC Sargent, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal and The Forever Friends Appeal and it is the perfect event for those ready to take running to the next level…
September will also see the opening of the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham. After seeing the Webb Ellis Cup here in Bristol in July as part of the Trophy Tour launched by Prince Harry and Jonny Wilkinson, Bristol Rugby Club will next be hosting Japan’s national side as a training camp in the run up to the tournament. The team from Georgia will also be based at the South Gloucestershire and Stroud College in Stoke Gifford as they prepare for their first two matches against Tonga and Argentina at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester. Rugby fans keep an eye out for matches being shown on the big screen in Millennium Square and check out the rugby world cup dinners now being offered inside of the Heineken Lounge at Ashton Gate for each of the England games.
